Same Day Emergency
Dr. Shah explains the most common dental emergencies and when you should see a dentist about them.
Dental emergencies can cause severe excruciating pain and can come out of nowhere at the most inopportune times. They can happen to children or adults and can happen any time. That is why we here at Destination Dental Care offer same-day emergency appointments to make it easier and more convenient than ever for you to get the care that you need without needing to wait days for an appointment.
What is a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any dental problem that needs immediate attention to stop bleeding, alleviate pain, or save a tooth that has encountered some form of trauma. It is extremely important to see a dentist right away if you have a dental emergency. At the best, we can save the tooth right away, if left untreated it can result in loss of teeth or cause further damage or infection.
What might constitute a Dental Emergency?
Anything that causes you severe distress or discomfort is considered an emergency, however, some of the most common types of dental emergencies that we see here at Destination Dental Care are:
- Cracked or broken tooth (teeth)
- A tooth has been knocked out of its socket
- A severely painful and infected tooth
- Dental crown or bridge has fallen out or come loose
- There is a gum abscess
- Swelling or excess bleeding
- Lost fillings or crowns
Why Same-Day Appointments are so important
The reason same-day appointments are so important is because certain issues need to be dealt with right away before they get worse. For example, an abscess or oral infection can get worse within hours and cause the patient a lot of pain, and risk the infection spreading to other neighboring teeth. For this reason, getting into the office as soon as you experience an emergency is crucial in correcting the problem and getting on with your life pain-free.
