Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is ideal for patients who are suffering from bone loss. Bone loss can occur for a variety of reasons, some being due to a degeneration of healthy bone as well as health disorders that affect the area. Bone grafting is done quickly and easily in the office and because we have many bone options available for grafting, you can choose which one works best for your needs.
What is Bone Grafting?
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that involves placing bone in an area where bone loss is present. The bone will then naturally fuse with what is already there, adding structure to the area for future dental procedures. Most often, artificial bone is used because it is readily available, but there are other treatment options available.
Why might it be recommended?
A comprehensive exam and series of x-rays is needed to determine if bone grafting is right for you. There are several reasons for why bone grafting might be recommended, and these include:
- You have severe periodontal disease that is affecting the bone
- You have suffered trauma to the facial bones
- You have a disease or disorder that affects bone integrity and need dental work done
